As part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (DHHS) comprehensive plan to continue educating the research community about the HIPAA Privacy Rule, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), agencies within the DHHS, are sponsoring a one-day conference that will look at how research has been affected by the Privacy Rule one year after the first compliance date.
Federal representatives from the DHHS, the Office for Civil Rights, the Office for Human Research Protections, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will present discussions on the impact of the Rule on:

- Clinical Research
- Health Services Research
- Mental Health Research
