Julie Kaneshiro

Ms. Kaneshiro is the Policy Team Leader in the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP), Division of Policy and Assurances, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). She joined the OHRP in February 2002. Previously, Ms. Kaneshiro worked at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for over 10 years in several NIH Institutes as well as in several offices within the Office of the Director (OD), NIH. Most recently, she was a Senior Policy Analyst in the Office of Science Policy, NIH/OD, where she was the lead analyst on human subjects policy and legislative issues. Ms. Kaneshiro was the primary DHHS research representative during the drafting of the proposed and final DHHS health privacy regulation Standards for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Health Information (Privacy Rule) and assisted in drafting the research provisions of the draft and final versions of the Privacy Rule. She has an M.A. degree in public policy with concentrations in philosophy and social policy from George Washington University (1996) and a B.A. degree in English literature from the University of Maryland (1991).
