National Cancer Institute's Nanotechnology Characterization Lab "Lessons Learned" Workshop 2013

September 20, 2013
Fishers Lane Conference Center
5635 Fishers Lane
Rockville, MD 20852

The National Cancer Institute Alliance for Nanotechnology in Cancer is sponsoring an intensive one-day scientific workshop on translational issues in preclinical characterization of nanomaterials. The workshop is intended for scientists, graduate level and above, with experience with bio-nanotechnology. This workshop will publicize and promote the "lessons learned" at the Nanotechnology Characterization Lab, from the testing of more than 280 nanotechnology-based candidate cancer treatments and diagnostics. The Nanotechnology Characterization Lab performs physicochemical characterization, in vitro experiments, and in vivo testing to support regulatory filings with the Food and Drug Administration.

Goals of this workshop include:

Educating the nanotech and cancer research communities regarding common issues for nanomaterial translation: biocompatibility, endotoxin contamination, batch-to-batch consistency, controlled drug release, stability, etc.

Providing drug developers (academic researchers, biotech companies, pharmaceutical companies, etc.) with Nanotechnology Characterization Lab's perspective on important tests for nanomaterial-based cancer drug formulations.
