2:30 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. Legislative Update

This session will provide an update on the legislative activities and outcomes relevant to eye and vision research during the second session of the 106th Congress. The session will also focus on the new 107th Congress, reviewing the membership of relevant House and Senate committees and identifying Members in key positions to advocate for vision research issues. Tips will also be provided on how to establish and maintain ongoing relationships with new and returning Members of Congress and their staffs.

1. Getting Basic Research Results in the News
Discuss and brainstorm ideas on how to make basic research interesting to the public.

 

2. Marketing, Public Information, and Public Relations: The Differences and Value of Each
Discuss the elements of each, explore successful ways to educate administrators and doctors of the value of these three strategies, and learn how to establish realistic expectations.

 

3. Sharing Ideas, Topics, and Programs
The sharing of ideas and projects is always popular. Bring samples of some of the great—or not so great—projects your institution has produced during the year. The group will review, discuss, and critique the samples. This is a great way to get new ideas, tips, and treasures from your colleagues! One of the featured projects will be the Oklahoma Health Center's Media Calendar.

 

4. Disseminating Upcoming Clinical Trial Results
Sit in on a discussion of developing a strategic media plan to disseminate important upcoming clinical trial results nationwide.
